Prof. Nicola Romeo has been working on photovoltaics since 1976. He made the first CuGaSe2/CdS solar cell with a 5% efficiency. Since then, He has published more than 150 works on CdTe/CdS and CuInGaSe2/CdS thin film solar cells.
He participated as a research leader for 8 years to the Italian Energy Finalized Project and to almost all the European Joule Projects.
He was able to obtain CdTe/CdS and CuInGaSe2/CdS thin film solar cells with efficiency around 15%.
Recentemente ha realizzato dispositivi fotovoltaici a film sottili di materiali semiconduttori policristallini ad alta efficienza (≈15 %). Inoltre ha fatto parte del comitato scientifico della rivista “Solar Cells”, è stato membro del comitato scientifico di molte “European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference” e chairman di sessionispecifiche in numerose conferenze internazionali. Attualmente è consulente di Arendi per la realizzazione di una linea di produzione di moduli fotovoltaici da 15MW/anno.
He is director of a research group since 1976 and he teaches Physics at Science Faculty of the University of Parma since 1970.
In 1981-82 He has worked for 9 months as a visiting professor at Stanford University
As an expert in CdTe/CdS thin film solar cells He delivered an invited talk to the European Material Science Conference held in Strasburg (France, 2000) on the back contact in CdTe/CdS thin film solar cells and an invited talk to the 21th and to the 22nd European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference, respectively held in Dresden (Germany, 2006) and in Milan (Italy, 2007).
In 2008, He delivered several invited talks on an industrial process for the preparation of CdTe/CdS thin film photovoltaic modules which he developed at the University of Parma (Italy) (Kocki, India; Washington, USA; Cancun, Mexico).
Finally in 2009 He presented an invited talk at the MRS Spring Meeting held in S. Francisco (USA).
He was able to transfer his process on CdTe/CdS thin film solar cells to an industry (Arendi Spa.) that is now close to produce 15 MW/year of photovoltaic modules. He has been a member of the scientific committee of many European Energy Conference and session chairman in several international conferences. He is now associated editor of the International Journal “Solar Energy”.
